Summer, in my opinion, is the best time to homeschool. The learning isn’t always through books, but it’s definitely real and worthwhile. It’s the type of living and learning that I want my children to do for the rest of their lives. Enjoying reading books in the hammock, painting pictures of nature, gardening, and furthering favorite hobbies. This year my kiddos will be receiving a great big Easter basket of fun homeschool projects for the summer. Here’s what I have planned!

Birdwatching Notebook – All of my kids have their own binoculars from their grandparents, so this was a great pick for us this summer. I got a copy each for my older two girls and my 4-year-old boy will learn from them, I’m sure.

The Burgess Bird Book for Children – This goes along with the idea of their bird study. I think it will really add a lot of fun and amusement. I’ve heard so many good things about Burgess books.

A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys – I love the idea of grabbing a wonderful book with short stories for a quick read out on the deck or on a picnic. This book seems like it fits the bill quite nicely.

Onions in My Boots – Beginning to learn how to garden has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. It has brought me so much peace and joy through difficult times. To think that they will have a head-start on wonderful, fulfilling hobbies like gardening makes me so happy.

Wind in the Willows – I really wanted to read this last year with my kids, but it just didn’t happen. So it’s on the top of my list this year for summer read-alouds! Summer adventure in nature: perfect!

100 Days of Adventure – We have already begun to use this book for the spring activities and it’s been so much fun! The ideas are so much fun and really get the creative juices flowing for me and for the kids to go out and be adventurous! Plus, I need all the help I can get with coming up with nature-based ideas and home experiments.

Creative Arts and Crafts Projects – I really don’t do many arts and crafts during the normal school year. But once the nice weather hits, nature is at its finest, and extra time finally comes around, we love doing some neat projects. I plan on getting all of the supplies we need, put them in a crate, and let my kiddos create and explore–hopefully pretty independently. Maybe they can do some of them on the deck for easier clean-up, too.

Sewing with Saint Anne – My girls, 8 and 10, absolutely love sewing, but I don’t always have time to help them. I’m hoping this book will guide them through really sweet, simple projects. I’m also including a special pattern and material in the basket, so that they can make their own summer dresses.

Praise Him with Your Very Life – My children LOVE putting on plays. My oldest basically directs it and they all memorize their lines. They keep it as a secret as possible until a special day where we all get to witness their greatness. Many squeals will be heard when they discover this book full of Saint plays.

A Catholic Garden of Puzzles – I’m looking forward to having something on hand to keep my kiddos busy when the days are extra hot or rainy and they’re stuck inside. I want them to be able to work together and have fun learning about their faith.

Here’s to a beautiful and memorable summer with our little ones!
